顯示更多Coming of age as an artist in Paris and the South of France during the 1920s and 30s, Marcel Dyf was naturally influenced by the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists - which can be seen in his love of outdoor subjects and the light effects of water. However, Dyf also looked often to Rembrandt and Tiepolo, as is especially clear in the shimmering brushstrokes rendering the flesh of his muse, Claudine Godat, who was to become his wife. Also represented here are the vignettes of gypsy encampments that so beguiled Dyf during his time in the south of France. The reflections of the canals and lush pastoral scenes betray an artist both enamoured of the canon and alive to the avant-garde.
