Lot Essay

Miss Cranston's White Cockade Tea Room and Restaurant was designed for the Glasgow Exhibition of 1911. This is the only known menu design by Mackintosh or Margaret Macdonald for any of Miss Cranston's Tea Rooms. The original drawing, which this printed menu faithfully reproduces, is in the collection of the Hunterian Art Gallery. No more than seven examples of the menu are known to survive, including four in public collections.
