Lot Essay

The present painting depicts a portrait of Mme. Genêt. She was a good friend of the artist who made several portraits of her. The present lot was painted at the river Trieux, near Perros-Guirec in Brittany, where both families would spend their holidays together.

To be included in the Maurice Denis catalogue raisonné being prepared by Dominique and Claire Denis, Thérèse Barruel and Anne Cruson.
