Lot Essay

Early in his career, in the 1920's, Olderock worked in an expressionistic style as a painter, muralist and designer of carpets. Forced by the political climate in Germany and in order to take care of his family, he accepted an appointment as professor at the "Fachgewerbeschule für Maler" in Hamburg in 1933. After his retirement in 1954 he took up abstract painting again.
