Lord's Ground. M.C.C. and Ground v. Australians. Thursday and Friday, June 11, 12, 1896. Printed scorecard, with details of Australia's second innings completed in manuscript, 152 x 113mm.
'RECORDS THE LOWEST SCORE -- 18 -- MADE BY AN AUSTRALIAN TEAM IN ENGLAND' (Rowland Bowen, Cricket, 1970, p. 306). In Australia's opening innings, the first three batsmen -- J.J. Kelly with 8, H. Graham with 4, and G.H.S. Trott with 6 -- were the only scoremakers. S.E. Gregory, F.A. Iredale. C. Hill, H. Trumble, J. Darling, C.J. Eady, and T.R.McKibbin, fell to A. D. Pougher and J.T. Hearne without another run being scored. Wisden called it 'perhaps the most sensational match of the whole tour. The game is already a historical one ... By winning in such sensational style the M.C.C. at last took their revenge for the never-to-be-forgotten defeat in 1878.'
