Melbourne 1956, large Olympics flag 90x190cm, cream cloth with the coloured Olympic rings stitched on (diameter of rings 30cm, cloth strips of rings 3cm wide) White cloth panel 90x30cm at fixing loop, remnants of cotton fibre fastenings, framed and glazed, overall 106x202cm

Said to be the flag which opened and closed the Melbourne Olympics. The cloth panel contains circa 35 signatures including: Avery Brundage; mayors of international cities including London; Victorian Shire Presidents; the remnants of two (orange and red) wafer seals, possibly that of the Premier of Victoria. The signatures are dated variously October 1955- October 1956
