Lot Essay

While traditionally identified as Frances, second wife of Sir Bulstrode Whitelocke (1605-1675) (see previous lot), this painting, executed by Michael Dahl, dates to the late 17th, or early 18th century, and is therefore likely to represent another member of the family.
