Sapper John McNaughton was one of eight Royal Sappers and Miners awarded the clasp for Egypt. After serving with Abercrombie in Egypt he was employed in constructing Martello towers on the Sussex coast, designed to combat the projected French invasion. He later served in Newfoundland before being discharged from the Army with a pension on 24.1.1815. McNaughton died in Woolwich in 1853, aged 83 years.
