The present work was used as an advertisement for the Fisk Rubber Company. Based in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, Fisk manufactured car and bicycle tires among other rubber products, and maintained a canvas factory in New Bedford. The Fisk Rubber Company was taken over in 1939 by the US Rubber Company, which became Uniroyal in 1967. Working in the golden age of illustration, N.C. Wyeth's vivid images can be found on the most well-known liteary works and coporate advertisement of his day. In Rubber from the Jungle to the World, Wyeth paints a dramatic panoramic scene resplendent with color and composed of bold figures, striking qualities that came to characterize his work from this period.
