Lot Essay

CHEVALIER WAS MUCH PATRONISED BY THE ROYAL FAMILY, AND PAINTED SEVERAL PICTURES FOR THE QUEEN AND THE PRINCE OF WALES. HIS VIEW OF THE MARRIAGE OF T.R.H. THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF EDINBURGH WAS SHOWN AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF 1875. HE WAS ALSO MUCH TRAVELLED, AND EXHIBITED WORKS DEPICTING CHINA, TAHITI, THE PHILIPPINES AND NEW ZEALAND AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY, SUFFOLK STREET, THE NEW WATERCOLOUR SOCIETY AND ELSEWHERE. A VERSION OF THIS COMPOSITION EXISTS IN THE ROYAL COLLECTION.
