Lot Essay

A study with minor differences for Colombel's Christ and the Adulteress, a picture dating from 1682, now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Rouen (121 x 171.5 cm.; exh. cat. Rouen, 2012-13, op. cit., no. P.16). Drawings by Colombel are exceedingly rare: in the 2012-13 exhibition catalogue, Chastagnol lists only nine.
