Lot Essay

Newly identified as by Lancret, this figure was used by him in the foreground of his picture L'Escarpolette, dateable to 1728-29. The painting was bought by Count Tessin for Queen Louisa Ulrica of Sweden in 1745 and is now in the Nationalgalerie, Stockholm, G. Wildenstein, Lancret, Paris, 1924, no. 233, pl. 54.
