Introduced in December 1953 around 22,000 examples were made from serial number 812000 with the highest recorded number at 924900. Rotoloni (p. 128) describes the lens: 'The 105mm f2.5 Nikkor-P is regarded as a landmark lens in history of Nippon Kogaku. It substantiated the fact that they were one of the premier optical manufacturers in the world and capable of producing a truly first class lens.'
