PABLO PICASSO
PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF LUCILLE ELLIS SIMON The following 37 linocuts from the Estate of Lucille Ellis Simon represent a large portion of the set of 100 linocuts that Picasso executed between 1959 and 1964. Mr. and Mrs. Simon acquired their impressive collection from Marlborough Galleries in early 1964. The couple often generously loaned these linocuts to museum exhibitions, most notably to 'Picasso Linocuts 1958-63' at the Grunwald Graphich Art Foundation at UCLA in 1965 and to 'Picasso Sixty Years of Graphic Arts' at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1966-7. A large portion of the Simon's collection is now part of the collection of the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena. The group included here filled the walls of Mrs. Simon's Hancock Park home, along with the fine series of Vuillard lithographs also included in this sale (lots 31-43). Other property from the Estate of Lucille Ellis Simon will be offered at Christie's in New York and in London during the Fall/Winter season of 2000.
