A Panamanian National Costume comprising: a tiered muslin blouse with boat neckline trimmed with green wool pom-poms, with matching tiered full skirts, both with elaborate red cotton appliqué motifs and drawn-threadwork flowers trimmed with lace in Valenciennes style; accompanied by a pair of yellow metal and untested pearl cluster earrings, a 19th Century cluster brooch with untested pearl decoration and twenty-five ornate hairpins of flowerhead design set en tremblent -- the outfit worn by Dame Margot Fonteyn for her portrait by Annigoni; accompanied by thirty-three photographs by various photographers including Felix Fonteyn and Eric Auerbach, the majority taken during a reception in the Panamanian Embassy, 17A Thurloe Place, London, circa 1956, (some duplicates) featuring Fonteyn wearing the costume - and another Panamanian National Costume comprising a full skirt of purple and white printed cotton, a white muslin blouse with purple silk lace inserts and trim, a white petticoat with appliquè flowers and a purple embroidered sash; and others of subject standing in front of her portrait in the embassy, largest -- 9¾x7½in.
