Lot Essay

Gabriel Weisberg confirms that this drawing is a preparatory study for the figure at the left in Dagnan-Bouveret's Christ and the Disciples at Emmaus, 1896-97, now housed at the Carnegie Museum in
Pittsburgh. The present work is also related to preliminary studies by the artist for his painting The Last Supper in Arras, France where the same model was used.
