The reference 5035 is equipped with a special self-winding annual calendar mechanism, a unique invention by Patek Philippe for which the company was granted a Swiss patent on 1 March 1996. This system shows the day, date and month and adjusts the calendar for months with 30 and 31 days. It only has to be re-set once a year at the end of February.
