Lot Essay

The recto of this study shows the Vénus de Milo from its familiar frontal viewpoint. The verso depicts a view of the countryside surrounding Aix-en-Provence, similar to that seen in the watercolours (Rewald nos. 77 and 78), dated around the same year as this drawing.
