Lot Essay

Notre Dame de Grace, the 11th century medieval cathedral in Honfleur, was a popular subject for Gernez and other School of Paris painters, such as Raoul Dufy and Andre Hambourg. Located in Gernez's hometown, perched high above the cliffs and ensconsed in a forest, the picturesque cathedral remains a popular subject for French artists.
