Sale room notice
Dr Wolfgang Schulz has kindly informed us that this watercolour is of Schloss Güterfelde, south of Berlin, given by the King of Prussia to Albrecht von Roon, his Minister of War, in 1868. In 1873 the castle passed to Kommerzienrat von Bleichröder, one of the most important bankers in the German Empire, who extensively redesigned the garden.
Lot Essay
The building is flying the pre-1914 German Imperial flag, and is almost certainly in Berlin as from 1887 Meyerheim was a professor at the Berlin Academy.
