Lot Essay
Janet Flanner (1892-1978), who wrote under the pen name 'Genêt', was the Parisian based correspondent for The New Yorker magazine between 1925 and 1975. She is best remembered for her column "Letters from Paris" and her seminal three part series profiling Hitler written of 1936. Her coverage of the Second World War, including that of the Nuremberg trials, led to her being made a knight of Legion d'Honneur in 1948.
