When exhibited in New York in 1986, a contemporary review of this work noted that: "Booth's treatment of the human animal says a great deal about mankind's dubious dual nature. In Man, he appears as a kind of sloth with a head on either side of a tubular body supported by two thick, three-toed legs You can take man out of nature, he seems to be saying, but you can't take nature out of man it's an awesome vision he gives us, about both our origins and our future.
Booth's skills are up to every bit of the reverse anthropomorphizing he sets out to do." (G Henry op cit, p. 162)
