De Wint was captivated by scenes of harvesting in the Lincolnshire Wolds, an upland area brought into cultivation during the agricultural revolution of the first half of the 19th Century. His landscapes of this type captured the vast expansive landscapes, often frequented by the sculptural, shadowy forms of hayricks or distant villages.
