Lot Essay

We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD for the attribution, given on the basis of a transparency; Mr. Meijer dates the picture to the early 1780s. For a similar signed and dated work by the artist see that sold, Sotheby's, New York, 5 June 2002, lot 14 ($229,500).
