Afbeeldinge vande vermaerde seehaven ende stadt van Duynkercken met der omliggende plaetsen sanden ende droochten afgeteeckent door Capiteijn Pieter Codde van Enhuysen, engraved map, handcoloured in outline, on two joined sheets, 445 x 700 mm. The map gives a birdseye view of the Dutch fleet approaching Dunkirk, the coastline is shown in the top segment of the map with Dunkirk in the lefthand corner, with title in Dutch and French in upper righthand corner and the lower righthand corner contains a table showing Calais and Waldamme. The verso is inscribed in German with Gothic type and relates the historical background of the scene shown; and An uncoloured version of the map descibed above, verso uninscribed but numbered 17 in brown ink; and A map showing a variation on the theme consisting of two parts, the upper part showing a geographical view of the coast of Flanders, the bottom part an amended version of the first described map and inscibed in Spanish on the verso, 44 x 52 cm.; and An engraved map of the geographical view of Dunkirk showing the city plan, with a table of content in French and inscribed No 72 in brown ink, by J. Harrewyn printed by E.H Fricx, 38 x 48 cm.; and An etching of a view f Dunkirk 11.5 x 34.5 cm. (4)

Christie's charges a Buyer's premium calculated at 20.825% of the hammer price for each lot with a value up to €90,000 (NLG 198.334). Lot Essay

Pieter Codde van Enkhuizen became an admiral of the fleet of the Verenigde Nederlanden at a remarkable young age. Trough his efforts in the blockade of Dunkirk the Dutch East Indies Company was ensured safe passage trough the North Sea Channel.
