We are grateful to Eddy Schavemaker for suggesting the attribution on the basis of photographs. Schavemaker notes the similarities between the present lot and a nearly identical version recorded in his Eglon van der Neer monograph (p. 62), both by Pieter van der Werff. Schavemaker remarks that the present lot is probably the later of the two versions.
