[POE, EDGAR ALLAN]. THE AMERICAN REVIEW. New York: Wiley & Putnam, 1845. 2 volumes, 8vo, contemporary half calf, rubbed at edges. Contains Poe's "The Raven" in the February 1845 issue (and this is generally accepted as the first printing of the poem, it is certainly the first magazine printing). First printings of other works of Poe appear in these volumes: "Some Words with a Mummy," "The Valley of Unrest," "The City in the Sea" (April 1845), "Eulalie" (July 1845), "The American Drama" (August 1845), "Facts in the Case of M. Vlademar" (December 1845). The year 1845 also contains a review of Poe's Tales, and an early work of Walt Whitman.
