Lot Essay

Udai Singh, thakur of Pali, ruled in the 1680s and 1690s. His father was Dhir Singh (1657-72). A painting by the same hand of the same maharaja is in the Victoria and Albert Museum; see Archer, W.G.: Indian Miniatures, London, 1960, pl.53
