Lot Essay

Pouran Jinchi, one of the leading contemporary Iranian artists today, is profoundly inspired by Persian calligraphy, yet her work fuses her cultural inheritance with the Western traditions of art as the letters lose their essential meaning to become abstract patterns. Reminiscent of the traditional geometric patterns in Persian art and design, Jinchi hints at the United States flag and thus explicitly creates a bridge between East and West.
