Lot Essay

A Milanese born artist, Mauro Conconi (1815-1860) received his training at the prestigious Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera under the tutelage of Luigi Sabatelli and Carlo Bellosio. In 1837, he was commissioned by King Carlo Alberto of Savoy (1798-1849) to decorate some of his Royal residences, including the Royal Palace of Turin with religious frescoes.
Luigi Conconi (1852-1917), nephew of Mauro Conconi, was a Milanese sculptor and printmaker, who collaborated with Troubetzkoy in the early part of the twentieth century.
