Lot Essay

In July 1911 a family went on holiday to the Hotel Schweizerhof in Flims-Waldhaus, Switzerland. The family consisted of parents, Julius and Clara Kohsen, and their children Walter (born 1895) and Hetty (born 1896), with friends.
One day Hetty and her friend Resi, then fourteen years old, insisted that they must each have a teddy bear to keep them company. Several days later, when the young girls arrived in the dinning room for breakfast, a white and a brown teddy bear occupied their chairs at the table. Hetty recieved the white bear and Resi the brown one.
The bears accompanied the family on the continuation of their holidays before returning home.
In 1938 Pu accompanied Hetty and her daughter from Berlin to the USA. First to New York and later to Los Angeles. Pu entertained and was much loved by three generations of children.
