PRESENTATION COPY TO HORACE WALPOLE with four-line manuscript verse dedication on verso of title, and an autograph note by Walpole 'Jane Henrietta Pye, a Jewess, first married to Mr.Campbell, when she became a Christian, and secondly to Mr.Pye' on the title; also a few manuscript insertions by Walpole in the text. Walpole describes the gift of the volume in a letter to Cole, 25 April 1775 (Yale edition vol.I pp 367-8) 'a silly little book ... drawn up by a Jewess, who has married twice and turned Christian, poetess and authoress. She has printed her poems too ...'; in return Walpole sent her some of his own 'bad' poems.

FIRST EDITION. Privately printed, the second work had been issued in 1760 as 'A short account'. Jael Mendez married Robert Hampden Pye in 1766.
