Manuscript on paper, 433ff. with 15ll. of sepia Sudani maghiribi, within wide margins, yellow trefoils between verses, sura headings in dark red, verse count marked by vertical panels in margins, opening folios and mid-point with geometric decoration in yellow, sepia and terracotta, catch words throughout in same hand, between loose boards, folio 9 x 7in. (23 x 17.7cm.), leather carrying case with green leather appliqué decoration

Lot Essay

A similar though more lavishly decorated manuscript of this type was sold at Christie's King Street, 29 April 2003, lot 13.
These manuscripts are usually attributed to Nigeria or the Sudan.
