Lot Essay

Original program as issued for the fifth game of the infamous 1919 World Series in which the Chicago "Black Sox" fixed the outcome in losing to the Cincinnati Reds. Program has evident handling and age wear with some fading to the covers and heavy vertical center fold line. Interior pages are intact showing even wear and scoring page partially completed in pencil including pitchers identifying as game five. Three White Sox errors including several of a blatant nature sealed their fate. Lefty Williams, one of the eight conspirators, lost his second game of the Series and was one of the recipients of a $20,000 payment made by gamblers after the loss in game five.
