Lot Essay

The bold style of decoration on this box and cover, which incorporates strong shades of yellow, red, green and turquoise, is characteristic of cloisonné enamel wares produced in the Ming period. The mythological landscape scene depicted provides the viewer with inspiration for meditation and contemplation, making this an ideal object for the scholar's desk.
