The exquisite quality of carving and the powerful spiritualism of this piece make this bodhisattva a great example of the early Chinese Buddhist sculpture.
The hairdress, the round face with straight nose and elongated eyes are very similar to those of a complete marble standing figure of a bodhisattva, illustrated in Hai-Wai Yi-Chen, Chinese Art in Overseas Collections, Buddhist Sculpture II, National Palace Museum, Taiwan, 1990, p. 65, no. 61.
