Lot Essay

This work is sold with a photo-certificate from the Comité Magritte.
The present lot is sold together with an autograph letter signed by Magritte to Mr Fischer, curator at The Israel Museum in Jerusalem, and dated 18 October 1966.

In the first paragaph, the letter incorporates an original sketch and explains how the present drawing should be used for the cover of Mr Fischer's revue KAV. In the second paragraph, Magritte refers to his April 1966 ten days trip in Israel, where he went with his wife at the invitation of the Israeli Ambassor to Belgium, and to the oil painting Le droit chemin (Sylvester, no. 1039), which he gifted to the The Israel Museum at the time.
