Beginning in 1974, Richard Artschwager began a series of drawings under the collective title Basket Table Door Window Mirror Rug. In the series, domestic objects were arranged in various configurations, taking the entire context of the drawing into account at all times. T.W.M.D.R.B. (Smoldering), 1988, depicts an interior space with the six objects (abbreviated in the title) stacked in the center of the composition and set ablaze, the smoldering smoke representing the artistic ritual of purification.
