ROBERT DE VAUGONDY, Gilles & Didier. Carte de la Virginie et du Maryland. Paris, 1755 [but ca 1780].
Engraved map of Virginia and Maryland by Groux hand-colored in outline, image 475 x 636 mm. Title cartouche with strapwork, plants, and scale of distances. Matted and framed (not examined out of frame).
State 3 of the Robert de Vaugondy reduction of the Fry and Jefferson map. It reduces the size from four sheets to one by reducing the size of the wording and content and by eliminating much of the original material on all four dimensions. Although the title is in French, most of the place names retain their English names. Coolie Verner, "The Fry and Jefferson Map," in Imago Mundi 21, pp.89-93. Phillips Atlases 619.
