ROBERT FALCON SCOTT (1868-1912)

Details
ROBERT FALCON SCOTT (1868-1912)

A brass simple-leaf shaped printing block with raised design of an anchor intertwined with RFS monogram surrounded with a circle of rope [circa 1902-1912]. 3 7/8 x 3 1/8in. (10 x 8cm.)

[With:]
A varnished turned oak roundel with raised rim, lettered in gilt and black on rim 'DISCOVERY', [circa 1901]. 5 1/8in. (13cm.) diameter, the inner circle drilled for fixing

PROVENANCE:
Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912) and thence by descent to his grandchildren -- Christie's, London, 17 September 1999 ('The Scott Relics'), lot 191.

The second item is clearly some form of fitting from the Discovery: it appears to have spent some time mounted vertically, and given the amount of wear, was from the interior of the ship. (2)
