Lot Essay

A study for one of the two small initials designed by Bresdin for the large collection of articles bound in a book Exposition Universelle de 1878. The drawing for the other letter, 'A', is in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (M. Préaud, op.cit., no. 27). The other drawing is similarly inscribed with the name of the artist's daughter Rodolphine. Included with this lot is Rodolphine's own copy of Fourès' Chien-Caillou, the first book published on Rodolphe Bresdin and including an extensive description of the present composition.
