Lot Essay

Combining an unusual and unrestored rose colored dial, well-preserved and sharp facets on the lugs and a case back still clearly engraved with case and reference numbers, the present watch is a great opportunity for any Rolex collectors to enjoy an unmolested example of this rare reference. It is interesting to note that the upper left lug of the present watch is stamped with the Portuguese import mark.

Reference 3834 was launched in the early 1940s, using the famous small size Valjoux calibre 69 chronograph movement. One of the rarest gems in Rolex's celebrated chronograph family, well-preserved and unmolested examples of this niche model are exceedingly rare. As a matter of fact, illustrations of reference 3834 in literature are particularly scarce.
Furthermore according to our research, less than ten examples of this model were offered at public auction over the last decade.

For one example of this model in literature see I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 138 & 139.
