Part of the most powerful names in the world of watchmaking, the present Rolex selection distinguishes itself by offering timepieces which have become unequivocally part of the most desirable vintage timepieces in the world. Including iconic manual chronographs such as the magnificent reference 6238 “Pre-Daytona” with a black dial in unspoiled condition, the present selection offers a distinctive overview of the Daytona model with highly coveted examples featuring attractive variations including a very rare and unusual tropical exotic “Paul Newman” dial or timepieces bearing exclusive signatures. An astute and sophisticated collector, the selection also features important Rolex non-chronographs of the highest quality, with a rare and magnificent reference 1665 Sea-Dweller made for COMEX (the Compagnie Maritime d’Expertise) or a magnificent example of the reference 1675 in gold with so-called “nipple dial” made even rarer through its Tiffany & Co signature visible above the GMT-Master script. Lot Essay

In excellent overall condition, the present timepiece is a very rare and highly attractive example of the Rolex reference 1665. Offered with its box and Rolex warranty, a rarity in itself, the beauty of the timepiece is emphasized through its magnificent dial of attractive tropicalized brown color and with the highly coveted ‘Double Red’ signature. In excellent overall condition, the wristwatch is built with a case back not only matching the reference number 1665, but stamped I. 72 indicating that the wristwatch was built in the first part of 1972, and with the final three digits of the serial number.

The reference 1665 was the first timepiece designed for use in saturation diving. It was fitted with a Rolex patent valve in the band and guaranteed waterproof to 610 meters depth. The valve was first developed on the Submariner model and allows helium and other gases to escape, enabling the watch to stand compression.
