Lot Essay

In 1977 Rolex substantially modifies the dial of the SeaDweller, discontinuing the DRSD dial (last examples seen at around 5.2M serial) and introducing a new full white dial, which is now known as the “Great White”, and is first seen on cases as low as 5.0M. As for the DRSD, also the Great White presents an evolution, with at least five versions identified as Mark 0 to Mark 4.

The first two series are very rare and can be recognized by the straight “ft” and “m” in the depth rating. All the later Marks will instead present italic fonts for these designations. Furthermore, Mark 1 dials – such as the present one – are distinguishable by the very small hole at the base of the Rolex crown.

Mark1 dials can be found approximately up to serial number 6.2 M.
