Three atlas volumes only (of 4), oblong 2° (348 x 474mm and 308 x 474mm.), each with title and index, the first with 86 lithographic plates, mostly tinted, 3 folding, the second with 53 plates, all by R. Gundrizer, the third with 34 tinted plates by Glybov, with captions in Russian, German and French, folding map. (A few leaves slightly soiled, a few minor marginal tears.) Contemporary Russian half leather (rubbed). Provenance: Stockholm, Kungl. Skogs- och Lantbruksakadamien Biblioteket (library and de-accession stamps).

THE VERY RARE ATLASES to accompany the Inquiry into the Condition of the Russian Fishing Industry published in 9 volumes between 1860 and 1876, for which atlases were issued to accompany vols. IV, VII, VIII and IX. The detailed plates illustrated the manner of fishing by line and net, hook and spear, in summer and winter, and dressing and preserving by drying smoking and salting the catch in the distant parts of the Russian Empire, with modes of transport and views of central and northern Russia. NO PART OF THIS WORK HAS BEEN OFFERED AT AUCTION IN MORE THAN 25 YEARS. Not in Nissen. BM(NH) IV, p.1,771. (3)
