RUSTAM KILLING THE MAD ELEPHANT, SAFAVID IRAN, PROBABLY QAZVIN, FIRST HALF 16TH CENTURY
Gouache heightened with gold, Rustam dressed in blue tunic with gold turban strikes the head of white elephant in bridle with a demon-headed axe, beyond is a palace with baked brick and tile decoration and walled garden with one of the double doors ajar, modern mount, some flaking and minor repainting- Miniature 9 x 6 in. (23 x 15.3cm.)
