SAINT ANTIPII
RUSSIAN, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
The saint holds the Gospels and his right hand is raised in supplication. He is represented in three-quarter position, turning to the left, thus indicating that this icon must have been part of an extended Deisis. The pastel colours of the saint's omophorion and cape stand out against his blue garments and the ochre and dark olive background.
18½ X 9½ in. (47 x 24.25 cm)
