SAINT JOHN THE FORERUNNER
RUSSIAN, 18TH CENTURY
The winged St. John is frontally portrayed. His right hand is raised in benediction and in his left hand he carries an open scroll and a chalice which contains the body of Christ. The lower part includes episodes from the Baptist's life: the foretelling of his birth, his nativity and first bath at the left and, his decollation at the right.
