Robert and Nicolas Descharnes have confirmed the authenticity of this work.

Flowers and fruit is a preparatory work for the print of the same title (Michler & Löpsinger no. 1350), executed in 1971 as part of Dalí's Currier & Ives series in which he paid homage to the 19th century printmakers who brought visions of American life into every home in the United States. The current work centers on a tightly rendered hand-coloured lithograph overlaid by Dalí's hand-painted interpretation. Just as Currier & Ives presented to the average American the fantasy of luxurious floral arrangements and bowls overflowing with fresh berries that are laid against a vast rolling landscape, Dalí invites the contemporary viewer into his own fantasy world where flowers explode into jewel-toned sprays and butterflies are born from their blossoms. Each work in its way represents hope, life and fruitfulness.
