Grimm, Swiss by birth, came to London in 1769 when he first exhibited at the Royal Academy. Grimm stayed in England until his death in Covent Garden in June 1794. Under the employment of Sir Richard Kaye and Sir William Burrell respectively, Grimm drew many topographical and architectural views. Both these collections are now in the British Museum. Holywell was a medieval pilgrimage site and takes it name from St. Winefride's Well.
